If your T61 is a model with Intel graphics, then try turning off the
igfxpers process in the task manager and see if that cuts your temp/fan use.
(I think your wife's machine has a Radeon for graphics, and doesn't run this
useless CPU-hungry process.)

Curiosity question: I installed TPFanControl on my T61 and my wife's T500.
My CPU runs 56-58C and the fan runs all the time, sitting on a desk; hers
runs mid- to high 40s and the fan often doesn't run, sitting on a softer
surface. Should I be (a) surprised (b) worried (c) blasé?
