My X60s has igfxpers.exe (it also has igfxext.exe, igfxsrvc.exe x 2 and igfxtray.exe). Why is igfxpers.exe useless? What would I lose if I turned it off? Should the other igfx-processes be turned off?

According to what I've gleaned from the internet, the "pers" stands for "persistence"; the process is supposed to monitor and remember what your default graphics state is. For example, if you turn it off and then do something that changes your resolution (like plug in a projector with lower resolution than your display), it might have trouble autoswitching back to your normal resolution afterwards. I've now removed it from autostarting (using msconfig), and I've never had a problem *except* for this.

Obviously, don't turn it off if it *doesn't* bog down your machine or cause overtemp, but in my case it was a no-brainer.
