Just discovered something that I thought I would pass on to the list.

One flavor of extended warranty offered by Lenovo in the US includes a "Thinkpad Protection Plan." This version offers a warranty against accidental damage from liquid spills on the keyboard, unintentional drops and bumps of the Product, an electrical surge that damages the Product’s circuitry, or the failure of the integrated LCD screen. Since my wife has damaged two different laptops by spilling wine and coffee on the keyboard, and my son killed an LCD by dropping the laptop, it seemed like a pretty good option.

It's pretty hard to figure out exactly what the plan is until after the purchase. After purchase, they send you a copy of the legal terms. Among other things, the terms state that "This Service is not available for consumer purchase in California and Florida." I discovered this after I had already given the 3 T400s to the intended owners, who live with me in California.

I called Lenovo to figure out exactly what choices I had (the terms of the warranty say that you can elect to discontinue it and get a refund within 30 days of purchase). What the Lenovo rep told me was that the warranty was valid so long as my account was a business account, and all he had to do was make that change to my account.

Seems kind of bizarre to me, but what the heck.
