I know it can boot off USB, so could it boot off CF in a USB adaptor of some
kind? CF is mass storage, so possibly it could be seen the BIOS the same as
a USB hard drive or thumb drive?

Throwing my $.01 in here as an owner of an X31 -- I don't believe there is
any way to get them to boot off of the a CF card in that slot. At least
there wasn't the last time I looked into the idea 2 years ago.
