Ah, Jane, far be it from me to accuse you of being snarky. You're one of the
more level-headed people anyone could hope to know.

Thanks for giving the historical background. It looks like the no-HTML
request was sound advice at the time.

But times have changed, HTML email has become much more commonplace, the
mailing list software knows how to deal with it - and certainly it's the
mailing list software's *responsibility* to deal with it.

So what was once good advice may now just be a source of divisiveness -
witness this discussion. :-)

In the interest of making both newcomers and old-timers feel welcome, I
think it would be best if the FAQ simply advised people that HTML formatting
is not preserved, instead of asking us to disable a feature that many of us
are unwilling to give up.
