At start-up, my ThinkPad T43 makes some slight 'grinding' noises for about 1-5 seconds, no more noise thereafter. The "ThinkPad Computer Hardware Maintenance Manual" indicates that the cooling fan is not a CRU (customer replaceable unit). What I see in the diagrams, the cooling fan should not be hard to replace by the owner. Any suggestion or advise? Did anyone replaced a fan in a T43? By trade, I am a retired tool and machine design engineer, so I an not a afraid of screwdrivers, (even sledge hammers) or tinkering with computer 'innards'.
