Fan is easy to replace on T4x machines, nothing to be scared of. Follow the HMM and you'll be golden.
Make sure to clean the CPU and GPU from whatever thermal compound is left, and apply a thin layer of Arctic Silver prior to re-assembling everything back together. You can be done in less than 15 mins even if you've never done this before. Good luck. The "ThinkPad Computer Hardware Maintenance Manual" indicates that the cooling fan is not a CRU (customer replaceable unit). What I see in the diagrams, the cooling fan should not be hard to replace by the owner. Any suggestion or advise? Did anyone replaced a fan in a T43? By trade, I am a retired tool and machine design engineer, so I an not a afraid of screwdrivers, (even sledge hammers) or tinkering with computer 'innards'. Any suggestions?
