Presumably you downgraded to the 1 year warranty from the default 3 years
when you bought it; that was not a good way to save money. If you can
re-up
the warranty for $150 as Ted suggests, I would do so.
Can I get by with that after partially dismantling the laptop?
You can always try. (Hence the "If you can" in my last sentence.) I've
never renewed an already-expired warranty, but others on the mailing list
have done so without trouble.
