This discussion is interesting in light of my experience. I run Debian
Stable, up to date, and when I tried a usb mouse the trackpoing got
disabled immediately. This is not what I wanted. I wanted to be able
to use the trackpoint AND the usb mouse, like I can do on the Dell 8600
(trackpoint and touch pad). But something in the BIOS seems to disable
the trackpoint when a usb mouse is plugged in. This is on 600E. This was
not of high importance, so I never bothered to fix it or understand why
it worked like this.
