It will not display protected content

Finally got output to TV screen after upping the
ATI s/w to 8.53.
However the oddity is that DVD player software
outputs audio and displays the frame on the TV but
within the frame it is black, not the moving image
appearing on the LCD within the s/w frame. It is
the same for VLC, WMP and Media Player Classic.
Has anyone ever gotten S-Video to work with a
DVD? How?
