Thanks for the head's up -- how are the X301's generally regarded in
comparison to the X201's? (I usually have had time to do my homework, but
this is a bit of a sudden issue)

I concur with Robert. My X301 also doesn't get very hot most of the
time.
The only times that I've noticed it getting warm is when it's struggling
to
maintain the graphics when I'm playing Age of Empires with my daughter -
she
usually beats me like a drum... :(
