Hello all
I've got a new CAD program to install on my T23<www.graficalc.com>
and was thinking I might want to update the OS first.
It's a 1133 MHz pentium III with 523 Mb of RAM and a 27 Gb hard drive
with 10 Gb free.
Current OS is Win 2000 pro, thinking of going to XP.
Not interested in Vista (and it probably wouldn't run anyway).
I hear good things about Win 7 but doubt the S3 graphics SuperSavage
IXC 1014 graphics chip would be able to handle the flashy graphics...

Maybe time to give up on having a real serial port and get a more modern CPU?

Thanks

Since Win2k is now completely unsupported, you do need to move
to XP or 7. 7 is better than vista, and I think is about the same CPU
usage as XP is. However, Win2k is a lot better in that regard, and
you must have 512M to keep XP from swapping, and that doesn't
let you actually run anything--1G is really the minimum for XP.

I saw some T60's or T61's for sale at Newegg or Ebay in the $350
class. Thats around a 2.5GHz core two duo, which is going to
be 3 times faster than your t23, I would guess.

It's possible to get good usb<->serial port adaptors, according
to a friend who has lots of serial devices. There are more bad
ones out there than good, but it is possible.
