I would expect the cable to be physically stronger than cable+adapter. I
haven't seen the adapter, but it would probably put more leverage on the
port than a cable would.
Anyway, from what I understand, the dp port on a Thinkpad is capable of
dvi/hdmi passthrough, so you don't need an active adapter. Don't quote me
though, as I don't have such a Thinkpad.
(I use an X120e now)
