The only times I've had problems undocking is when a program is running 
(sometimes in the background, for example asynchronous backup programs like 
Crashplan) that is accessing the drive in the ultrabase.  In this case I 
usually get a Windows warning message (note that these warning popups can be 
disabled).  It seems possible to me that the system could shut down a few of 
the docked connections then get stuck on one, in which case they 
disconnected ones would not come back to life until you undock-redock the 
machine.
