[Thinkpad] How do I connect a T400 to TV

Hello all, how do I connect T400 to a LCD TV so that the PC screen display is shown on the TV?
Somebody told me that I would need a HDMI cable and HDMI ports to link up, and that it is impossible to directly link the T400 to the TV in this way because the former has no HDMI ports. Is this true?
