I take back what I said. I just looked at my wife's T400 and it doesn't have a DVI output. A cable will not work unless yours has DVI.
You have two options. Some TVs have a PC input that can take a VGA cable that your T400 does have. Another option is a docking station that has a DVI output. The T400 apparently has no digital video output. The T500 does as does the T420 that I am working on right now.
