I would like to report this hotmail extention working out of the box with my account in Thunderbird 2.0.0.16.

KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK!

I have indeed read your messages - and that is why I have continued
testing today with b54 (which was working perfectly with all my
Hotmail accounts).

I have now managed to reproduce the condition I believe you are seeing
on a couple of my Hotmail accounts. In it the Hotmail extension is in
a looping condition trying to login to the Hotmail account and, as you
report, the logs are increasing in size at a rapid rate.

This extension is prone to break when Hotmail makes changes - and they
do not apply those changes to all accounts at once but stagger them.
Like me you have probably been seeing the messages from Hotmail Live
advising of further changes coming along. It is possible that is the
result of one of those changes and that the accounts owned by the
Webmail Author have not yet been included.

I have forwarded a log of the problem to the Webmail Author.

BluesRenegade..

Appreciate your attempt to help, but did you even read my  previous
posts??

There is NO mail, either read or unread in any of my folders..
period..
My preferences are setup as you recommended.. and have been since
b49..

AS I previously stated, there is a loop between the hotmail login AND
the
cookie manager, that NEVER errors out, and runs indefinitely..

I have possibly traced the problem to issue with a corrupted PW file
on
the hotmail server, but am waiting for a  reply from hotmail support..

Granted, I may have a problem with the hotmail server, but there still
is
an endless loop issue with the extension..

I am just surprised that there is no interest in this looping
problem,
and everyone is content to have the extension kinda working?

Not trying to "rain on the parade", but without effective error
checking,
the extension can cause other issues that may be hard to troubleshoot
for the average user..

Thanks again for all the comments..

tjjechster,

you are going to have to learn to accept that there is a very serious
flaw in b49 that is fixed in b53, b54 and beyond and that there is no
escaping its consequences.

b49 and its predecessors were (it happens - sadly) deliquent in
reporting to Thunderbird the full nature of the Thunderbird server.
b53 and b54 do report  (as required by the POP protocol) the full
extent of the Thunderbird server.  The result is, that many users will
experience a huge re-download - once only - of the contents of the
Thunderbird server and its consequent CPU and potential file overload
(and very noticeable in the Webmail logs) .

There are alternatives.

They are:

1) Move all current Inbox messages on the Hotmail server to a custom
folder (do *not* define this folder in the folder selection of the
Hotmail extension)
2) Use the "download unread messages only" option for the Hotmail
account in the Webmail Hotmail extension - normally I would never
recommend this unfortunate option (which is not in keeping with the
POP protocol) but it will save you a lot of grief in recovering from
this problem.  However, using this option will mean that absolutely no
deletions you make in Thunderbird can be actioned on the Hotmail
server.
3) I have examined some other options that require some effort but
that avoid (1) and (2) above - for any reader interested please let me
know and we can discuss.

Webmail Author,

Thanks for your constant work to keep up with all the changes that MSN
and Yahoo keep making to their webmail sites!

I really appreciate all you do to keep us on Thunderbird. :)

Since getting the 19b54 version, Hotmail seems to working right again.
YAY!!!  (Something it hasn't done since Nov. 4th here.)

Thanks again!

To those still having trouble,

I suggest you visit your Hotmail account, login and see what happens.

If ANY intermediate windows or prompts come up, make sure you check them
to never show up again or remember your choice (whatever it takes to
prevent them from re-occurring).

Any extraneous prompts, windows, etc. AFTER you login, will surely hang
Webmail for TB, and cause it to fail to retrieve your mail.

Hope that helps!

alanrf;
Appreciate the clarification, but I was reading between the lines of
your last post..
As I previously stated, NO emails in my Inbox... and nothing in any of
the other folders either..
No custom folders, only original folders created during the "create
account" process..
totally clean and empty..

Just to be concise, I am also using web-mail-1-3-3b3 and will be happy
to send the hotmail & cookie manager logs to anyone that can decipher
them..

FYI,  This is being done at the request of one of my clients..

thanks for the followup..

I really should be more precise in my questions. The question should
have been:

Do you have a large number of messages in the total of your Inbox and
any custom folders you have also asked the Hotmail extension to
download?

I do not have a large inbox in hotmail, in fact, it's empty..
As I previously stated the b49 version is working fine with the
exception of intermittent password refusals.

b54 is causing a loop in Thunderbird's cookie manager and according to
the cookie manager log, it just re-writes the cookies continuously..
Now whether this is caused by it a loop in the b54 login routine, I
can't say, but both log files get very large very fast due to the loop
and cpu usage increases to 12-15% (normally at <1%) until I exit TB..
I did let the loop run for well over 20 mins., so it's not an issue
with slow response..

After downgraded to b49, and none of these symptoms are present, so it
is definitely b54, (FYI: b53 does it too)
All logs look normal, unlike the b54 logs, and they stop growing
immediately..

I wish it was as simple as an oversized inbox, but that ain't it..

thanks for tryin'

I believe b54 is working just fine (it is for all of my WebDav and non-
WebDav accounts).

However, I suspect that you are being affected by the fact that b54
fixes a problem that has been in the previous test versions.
It will mean that anyone using the fixed Hotmail extension will, if
they have a large Inbox on Hotmail, face this type of problem.  The
Webmail Author cannot prevent this for you unfortunately.

Previous version of hotmail-1-2-19b49 was intermittently asking for
password, so I just installed the latest hotmail-1-2-19b54 and now
when I start Thunderbird, the process never stops and seems to
maintain a constant connection to hotmail?? It is also consuming
memory AND a consistant ~12% cpu usage.

I can close Thunderbird and as soon as the process closes and cpu
usage returns to 1%.  There are no errors in the "Error Console". Also
both the Thunderbird hotmail.log and Cookiemanager.txt continuously
grow larger.. Looks like there is a loop in the create cookie
routine..

Let me know if you want the logs and where to send them to, and I will
get them to you asap..

Will revert to b49 till this is resolved..

Thanks again for all the work!!
