1) Am in America and have had a hotmail account since 1997! I love hotmail. When microsoft stopped supporting Outlook Express download of hotmail that's when I switched over to Thunderbird and used Thunderbird Webmail Extension. Been using it for a few years. All is OK now with it. But I want to have secure POP3 (SSL) downloads from Hotmail if possible. I tried to set up Thunderbird to download the new mail from Hotmail using SSL, but can't get it to work. Seems simple enough from the various websites I've found .... just I get an error saying SSL is not avialable (don't recall exact terminology at this moment). So I deleted that attempt and want to try again. Would like to have some people with success post on this thread with some detailed explanation and suggestions. That would help me and everyone give it a try and do the comparison with Webmail.
2) Have read it's important to manually log into Hotmail via web access (which is exactly what Webmail extension does) periodically or else the hotmail account will be deleted over time. Is this true? Can someone verify this? How often to log in? Here's some of the website's I've looked at for info regarding POP3 access of Hotmail: http://groups.google.com/group/thunderbird-webmail-extension/browse_thread/thread/6aaf3dc1cbc0c9af/79be7a092f02afb5?show_docid=79be7a092f02afb5# http://windowslivewire.spaces.live.com/blog/cns!2F7EB29B42641D59!32413.entry http://windowslivehelp.com/solutions/settings/archive/2009/01/06/send-and-receive-windows-live-hotmail-emails-from-a-mail-client.aspx http://ask-leo.com/what_are_windows_live_hotmails_pop3_and_smtp_settings.html http://email.about.com/od/mozillathunderbirdtips/qt/et_free_hotmail.htm http://windowslivehelp.com/community/t/6299.aspx http://lifehacker.com/5171571/use-hotmail-from-your-gmail-account http://blogs.howtogeek.com/mysticgeek/2009/03/13/how-to-send-and-receive-hotmail-from-your-gmail-account/ --~--~---------~--~----~------------~-------~--~----~ You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Thunderbird Webmail Extension" group.
