For Last Months, Email Warnings to change settings for Hotmail by 1st
Sept 2009, to be able still access them, after 1st sept, just went
over my head, assuming any changes will will be born into another
version of this Webmail extension.
However, now, on the 2nd of Sept, I cannot access Hotmail, via Wemail,
saying Negative Vibes.
I looked at the last warning, which said to access have to do one of
three things. I get the impression may be limited to only getting it
via POP not IMAP.

I appologise, as I have not looked further than a few posts, if this
has been covered before, but I will Post 2 Items, Below.

1> Last email Received, with instructions on, and links.
>2 One of the links with instructions with POP/SMTP Ports etc for receiving.

If is only POP, for Thunderbird, I will copy my Hotmail in and out to
another location for safe keeping.
The last time I used POP for Hotmail, I lost half the folders, and had
to keep signing on to webmail to check my Spam, and other folders.

Are there plans to fix the Hotmail Plugin, to still work, as was, or
is this just a coincidence that Hotmail went down on the 2nd of
September?

Email followed by Instructions for POP & SMTP... Good Luck..

 Dear Windows Live Hotmail Customer,

You are receiving this note because you have used Microsoft Office
Outlook, Outlook Express, or Entourage to view your Windows Live
Hotmail®. Microsoft is changing the way these programs access Hotmail
e-mail which will require you to take action.

To continue to receive e-mail from your Hotmail account, please select
one of the alternative solutions below before September 1, 2009. After
this day, new e-mail can only be delivered to your mail programs
through the following alternative solutions.

If you use Microsoft Office Outlook to view Hotmail, you can download
free Office Outlook Connector to continue accessing your Windows Live
Hotmail within Outlook 2003 or 2007. If you're using Outlook 2002, you
will need to change the settings on your program to access your
Hotmail. Click here to learn more.

If you use Outlook Express to view Hotmail, you can choose to download
free Windows Live Mail (recommended) or change the settings on your
program to access your Hotmail within Outlook Express. Click here to
learn more about your options.

If you use Entourage to view Hotmail, you can change the settings in
your program to view your e-mail. Click here to learn more.

Why is this happening? Outlook, Outlook Express, and Entourage use a
legacy communications method (known as the DAV protocol) to access
Hotmail. Because the DAV protocol is not optimally suited for programs
to access large inboxes such as Hotmail which now provides users ever-
growing storage*, new alternatives have been built. Last year,
customers asked us to postpone plans to retire the DAV protocol until
more options were available. Now that these options (including the
POP3 protocol) are available, we are ready to retire the DAV protocol.

Thank you for using Windows Live Hotmail.

Sincerely,

Your Windows Live Hotmail Team

Alternatives to DAV if you use Entourage

If you currently use Microsoft Entourage to access Hotmail, you can
change your settings to use POP3 (POP3, or Post Office Protocol 3, is
a protocol that's used to retrieve e-mail from a mail server.) instead
of DAV. POP3 is another method for Entourage to communicate with
Hotmail.
Important

There are a few differences between DAV and POP3. For example, if you
read an e-mail message in Entourage, the message still displays as
unread in your Hotmail account on the web. Also, only messages in your
Hotmail inbox appear in Entourage. Other folders, and any messages in
them, aren't shown.
Add a Hotmail POP3 account in Entourage

   1. In Entourage, on the Tools menu, click Accounts.
   2. Click New, and then click Mail.
   3. If the Account Setup Assistant displays, clear the contents of
the E-mail address field, and then click Configure Account Manually.
   4. In the New Account window, choose POP, and then click OK.

      Note

Don't choose Windows Live Hotmail as the account type.
   5. In the Edit Account window, click the Account Settings tab, type
the following Hotmail account information:
          * In the Account name field, type a name to identify your
account.
          * Verify that Include this account in my “Send & Receive
All” schedule is not selected.
          * Under Personal Information:
o In the Name field, type your name.
o In the E-mail address field, type your Windows Live
ID (for example: [email protected]).
          * Under Receiving mail:
o In the Account ID field, type your Windows Live ID
(for example: [email protected]).
o In the POP server field, type pop3.live.com. If you
don't see the POP server field, click Cancel and go back to Step 2.
o In the Password field, type the password you use
with your Windows Live ID.
o Click the Click here for advanced receiving options
button.
o Select the This POP service requires a secure
connection (SSL) check box.
o Verify that the default port is 995. If it isn't,
select the Override default POP port check box and type 995.
o Verify that the Always use secure password check box
is not selected.
o Close the advanced receiving options.
          * Under Sending mail:
o In the SMTP server field, type smtp.live.com.
o Click the Click here for advanced sending options
button.
o Select the SMTP service requires a secure connection
(SSL) check box.
o Verify that the default port is 25. If it isn't,
select the Override default SMTP port check box and type 25.
o Select the SMTP server requires authentication check
box.
o Select the Use the same settings as receiving mail
server check box.
o Close the advanced sending options.
   6. On the Options tab, select the Leave a copy of each message on
the server check box if you want to see your messages when you use
Hotmail on the web, on your mobile phone, or in another e-mail
program.
   7. Select the Delete messages from the server after they are
deleted from this computer check box.
   8. Click OK.

      Your account has been created.

Create a schedule to send and receive messages

   1. In your main Entourage view, on the Tools menu, click Schedules.
   2. In the Schedules window, click New.
   3. In the Name box, type a name for the schedule, (for example:
Hotmail Send and Receive).
   4. Under When, create a new Repeating Schedule with a frequency you
want.
   5. Under Action, on the pop-up menu on the left, click Receive
Mail, and then in the from pop-up menu, click your Hotmail POP
account.
   6. Click Add Action.
   7. In the new row, click Send All on the pop-up menu.
   8. Click OK.
   9. To test your schedule, on the Tools menu, click Run Schedule,
and then click the schedule name.
  10. Your e-mail messages will be downloaded to the Inbox under On My
Computer.

Note

Existing rules you created for your Hotmail account (under Rules on
the Tools menu) won't work for the new POP3 account. You'll need to re-
create them as POP account rules.
