That is how I normally how received my email as I prefer to receive my in one place than having to go to multiple websites and logging into each one is very time consuming, especially since TB can do it automatically for me. I keep copies here and on the web server just in case I have a crash of my systems. I had four units all crash the same day in April losing everything except by backup copies of my system files.
I was on dial-up for years with limited hours and TB was and is the only way to use my time wisely when using these services. Since you say that you normally check TB first, let's try checking your TB account settings first then, as it is the mostly source of your problem from your description of the problem. On main window click on tools, then account settings. Now on the account setting page left side scroll down and find your gmail account and select it. If it has a plus sign next to it click on the sign, it will change to a minus sign, and it open the sub menu for the account. Now select your account server setting menu item. First half of server settings you should not edit as these are setup by webmail when you initially setup your account. Note there two other ways of setting gmail account (Regular pop3 and IMAP) but I am assuming currently that you are using the webmail version. Half down on the right side is the server settings for receiving mail. This is where you can have TB check new message at start-up, How often it re-checks for new messages and if you want message automatically downloaded when they are found. A check mark in the box beside by the item indicates that it check currently selected; otherwise, it is off. You click just on the appropriate box to change it settings. Click on OK when done. Restart TB for the settings to take immediate effect. If this was the problem you should be able to start receiving emails again. If not then you need TB to create a set logs for the gmail - webmail account for the webmail author to look at.
