IMHO the main reason for ISO standards being ignored is that they want to see
1$ per page or so (even for an electronic document).
Imagine how many RFCs would be followed if the price were 1$ per page,
combined with a "no copy allowed" policy ;-)

(That makes me believe that "standards documents" should be available freely;
guess you'd have to pay a patent fee for using a conforming date header in
software: Some companies may like the idea, but eventually that would just lead
to many different incompatible formats (IMHO))
