Jed, Earlier on you mentioned that you have had intermittend internet connection. That is what a lot of linux mint 19 users are complaining about. That was also what I experienced on the wifi, I am not using anymore. On the same computer a very cheap and tiny usb wifi has helped and giving me good connection all the time.
Of course it also helps me, that I am using older than old hardware.
