Just FYI, I thought it worth mentioning Thomas Elmiger's variant on "bookmarks" which uses a "side marker" in an interesting way ... His approach is to integrate it into his "MyStory" plugin <https://tid.li/tw5/plugins.html#%24%3A%2Fplugins%2Ftelmiger%2FMyStory> which makes sense since bookmarks (& favourites) are part of "bespoke navigation." Just thought you might be interested to see it.
