It makes sense to be non-semantic because IF you can get the outcome to look like what you need then you not too bothered about the semantic level. Its your wiki, not generalist compatability. I DO agree that *ideally* its much better to stay semantic, but users will often be focused on visual outcome that serves their immediate aim. So I think TonyM's interest in an extensible markup is very relevant both to enable his aim and keep semantic.
