Hi Jeremy

Thank you for inviting us into your livingroom (and a glass of red wine).

It was my first time as an attendee at a videoconference, however it turned
of to be a both very enlightening and joyfull experience :-)

I used my TWsOS (Puppy Linux) remaster [1] in a live seesion (booted into
ram from an usb) - and I actually tried to record the "Google Hangout" with
RecordMyDesktop [2], however it didn't work because of too little RAM - and
I lost the video in the process... :-(

Next time I will use a frugal installation [3] on an usb stick..

I wrote a small summary of our meeting on our Danish TiddlyWiki group [4]:
Here's a 'quick and dirty' translation into English:

"Hello TW-afficionados

I was fortunate to attend a "Google Hangout" with some of the "Giants" in
the TW-business.

Jeremy had a small written agenda - and I guess his plan was to stick to
it, after everyone had said in what direction they wanted TW5 to go..

After a few minutes some of the more innovative ideas were discussed and
demoed ...

Alex Hough: had questions regarding intuitive recording of images and
annotation using iPads and phones ...
Måns: demanded a simple interface (for newcommers/students) and an easy way
to use an expanded list macro (a lá ForEachTiddlerPlugin - already covered
in the TW5 documentation)

Alex and I got answers to our questions - and then there was a lively
debate, demoing and talk about possibiliteis for the userinterface ...

Mario Pietz: talked about Graphic Maps and showed us a very impressive yet
simple library for creating connections of nodes......(Don't remember the
name?)

Jeremy: demonstrated Project Cecily (ZUI zooming interface)

Eric Shulman: demoed MoveablePanels and the unlimited scrollable canvas...

It was quite cozy - Jeremy enjoyed a glass of red wine and had some
crackers along the way (now I know why they are called "crackers" ...) >
Alex galloped around in his children's room to find a suitable position to
enjoy the hangout from.
Mario was probably the one who really had prepared himself for a hangout -
I guess he sat in his best armchair with a webcam and microphone set up
properly from the start ;-)
Eric was a very good listener even though only the lower part of his face
was visible and his video signal often disappeared and came back - in our
1 ½ hour conversation. (Atlantic disturbances?)

I was NOT the participants who spoke the best English - but everyone seemed
to enjoy themselves (and seemed to be thrilled by the fact that I was able
to keep my pipe "boiling" during most of the meeting)

I had started a TWsOS live session up when I signed up for the meeting -
and was a little anxious to see if it would work with video and audio on
this tiny distro (Puppy Linux).
When I signed up a dialogue popped up, which allowed me to choose which
type of installer I would use in order to participate.
There were several different types of Linux (32 or 64 bits) packages. I
selected "google talkplugin_current_i386.deb" - installed it - and a popup
window with the video chat was instantly updated ...

I still needed to open retrovol (audio mixer) and turn up the internal
microphone. (I also used headphones - which is very recommendable btw...)

I tried to make a screencast of the hangout - but ran out of space in the
tmp/ram dir (low ram) - and had to abandon my little "sideproject". Next
time I will boot from a frugal install and see if it helps ...

I would recommend Google hangout for anyone with a webcam and a working
microphone -> but I think you have to have to try it a few times before
you are able to completely focus on the topics you want to discuss...

On the other hand, "free talking" together with video *is* fun and the
fact that you can share a view of your desktop is perfect for quick demoing.

Let me know if you would want to try Google hangout - It's particularly
suitable for displaying desktop and demonstration of what you're. doing in
a browser. It is no problem to be MANY attendees at the same live chat at
once"

Cheers Måns Mårtensson
