@Eric - yes, customizable min/max/step are the missing pieces in the edittextwidget.
@Jed - good reasoning about turning this into a separate widget. Range sliders are just way different than the normal edittextwidget use case that it surely would be confusing for users. Plus the edittextwidget already has many parameters...of which many are already confusing!
