I think the parsers are very useful--and currently wildly underused for customisation--mainly, probably, because they are in JS. FYI you might want to look at work of BJ http://bjtools.tiddlyspot.com/#Flexitype%20Demos I particularly like his: http://flexibility.tiddlyspot.com/ which is a pure regular expressions based pre-parser that runs before the main parsers kick in.
