Let's agree PDF is a page description, not a container file format for
raster graphics as it is the case for e.g. TIFF.

In my defense, this misunderstanding is due to the fact that you can
convert a PDF to PostScript and back without any significant loss.

Admittedly, not all PDF elements can be represented in /standard/
PostScript.  But there are also no general pointers in /standard/
Pascal... ;-)
