The only significant upside to GPL v3 that I can discern would be
compatibility with Apache 2.0 license. That would be nice, but certainly
not at the cost of being able to collaborate with other VNC vendors. As
DRC pointed out, there is still a clear benefit for both TigerVNC and
TurboVNC (at least with the java viewers) from being able to share code.
I don't see how DRM is relevant within the context of TIgerVNC, but I do
think that "tivoization" could apply, particularly to the java viewer. HW
vendors embed java VNC viewers all the time in order to do things like
provide a remote management console accessible via an embedded http server.
Whether or not they choose to prevent end-users from overriding their
embedded software is, IMO, their business not mine, so from that standpoint
I don't really support the "tivoization" clause. It seems somewhat
hypocritical to me...
Unless there is some factor that I'm missing which directly affects the
TigerVNC project, then I would prefer not to change.
