Gak.  OK, I guess maybe we need to design one.  I will have some funding 
for this after the first of the year, and the initial stage of my 
efforts will be to craft a low-level mock-up of the encoder using 
libx264, so I can run it through the TurboVNC Benchmark Tools and get a 
feel for exactly where H.264 is beneficial relative to the existing 
Turbo encoding methods.  After I go through that process, I should be 
able to at least speak intelligently regarding what a hypothetical H.264 
RFB extension should look like.

Our interest at the moment is not in providing an automated way of 
switching between multiple encodings but rather to see if H.264 could 
provide generally a better overall solution for low-speed networks.  I 
suspect that, for some applications that generate images with a low 
number of unique colors, the existing approach might work better, but 
that's why I need to do the low-level tests.
