I've found one thing that explains why it works for us but not for others:
FLTK has a dual build system, supporting both Autotools and CMake. Our
internal build of FLTK uses Autotools, while BUILDING.txt documents the
CMake approach. One of our patches (fltk-1.3.x-clipboard-xfixes.patch) did
not take CMake into account. I've added a new patch that should fix this
now.
We want to stay as close to the TigerVNC upstream as possible, so long
term, I think we should either change to use CMake internally as well, or
update BUILDING.txt so that it recommends Autotools instead.
I've now listed all patches in BUILDING.txt, so that there's no confusion
about the order.
