Based on tearing apart a number of survey grade GPS boxes …. not so much. The
oscillator is hardly in the “super duper" category. The improvement in 
precision comes
from dual (or triple band) operation and post processing.

This is very true. If you have good fixes, you can generate very high quality 1pps pulses with a fairly ordinary oscillator. After all, the reason you need *four* satellites is to estimate the local clock offset.
