At http://jensar.us/~bob/garmin/ is a patch to nptd 4.2a for the Garmin
protocol so even a USB vesion can be used.
Where in Europe can I find the Garmin GPS-18 cheaply? They're either
200+ euro or 90 but deliver not to the Netherlands.
