Compile finished, but it doesn't seem to have improved unfortunately
:( This GPS is *really* innacurate...

I now believe the GPS device I have to be faulty.

As I said before - I have a TomTomOne sat on this desk, which says
there's a near 100% signal from 3 satellites here. I can only get the
Garmin to sync when it is suspended right next to the window - and
even then it's intermittent. It's not an option to have it there
permanently - it has to be next to the machine.

The ridiculously inaccurate time sync is probably explained by this
also.. something wrong somewhere.

Really annoying - wasted 15 hours on this... :(

Tony,

I'm sorry to hear of these problems.

As I mentioned, the device seems a little insensitive compared to my other receiver, and I found that it needed to be outside. I think I was expecting better as well. A simple bracket on the window provided a near-180 degree sky coverage which is marginally adequate. Use a program like the free VisualGPS:

 http://www.visualgps.net/VisualGPS/

to see how many satellites are in view. You really need four.

Was the longitude and latitude reported in the sentence you showed earlier correct?

I found that the recently fitted windows were not as transparent to 1.5GHz RF as the older windows they replaced. See if you can get the device outside somehow, and extend your lead a little. RS-232 is easy to extend. When it's lighter I'll see if I can take a photo of the little bracket I made and add it to the Web page.

Cheers,
David
