Fabien,

assigning someone to the website is not enough I am afraid.

For weeks version 5.0 has been hyped in blogs and elsewhere - alpha release is
supposed to happen soon.

With alpha being less than a month away it should be possible to pull a working
copy from launchpad and get it running.

I spent over a day on it and its still not working.

Documentation is largely absent or outdated. setup script of webclient doesnt
work. I installed old etiny, compatible ? no idea, no one documents it.

init=all of databases is broken. How to init the database, no clue, not
documented.

The whole thing is badly presented on the website, badly or not documented and
incompletely implemented given that it is supposed to be "trunk". alpha, my
foot ...

Do not get me wrong, OpenERP is a brilliant concept. But it still lacks what
has been lacking now for years.

Someone who puts complete documention in a clean comprehensible format and
someone who keeps control of their entire software development process and
looks at it from the perspective of the user admins.

A "trunk" software pulled from launchpad must be installable and must always
run, trunk is trunk. And it must be documented in a way that is clear and
comprehensible. Period.

If someone like me with 20 years experience cannot do it then I imagine that
the average admin can also not do it.

I do of course understand that documentation, setup scripts, keeping changelogs
uptodate etc, are not the most popular subjects for managers and programmers.
But they are necessary. If such things do not work then there is no trust from
admins that this project is maintainable when implemented a company.

Geejay
