Alfresco has its service requests, extensive tagging, workflow of saved objects depending upon a logic, visibility of saved files in multiple ways including file shares.
To my way of thinking, if an opensource project has good roots and open licensing, it should be used as a component, instead of re-inventing the wheel. e.g. I'd like to use Alfresco for DMS, processMaker for BPM/workflow (I'm still investigating OpenERP's workflow/bpm model) sugarcrm community edition for crm, dbmail for storing corporate emails, magento for ecommerce & so on. In my opinion marrying the core code to open source projects that have compatible licensing is a better way to grow the functionality...but then that's my way of thinking. Comments?
