Mayur,

I need to make some measurements again on how many mAh/day the latest CC2420
LPL stack consumes. It should still be around the 5.0-something mAh/day
neighborhood for a 2 second receive check interval, although could have
increased due to corrections made during reliability testing.

The CC2420 radio consumes somewhere around 20-24 mA while it is turned on in
Rx mode, and there's no decreasing it. The CC1000 radio was able to only
turn partially on to sample the channel, and it was probably around 8 mA
when doing an Rx check.

Maybe next week I'll make some updated measurements.

Subject: [Tinyos-help] MCU and cc2420 power consumption

Hi All,

I have few questions relating to the power management being done in TinyOS
2.x

1. While perusing through the mails on the list it seems that the MCU
(Atmega128L or MSP430) sleeps if there are no tasks in the task queue.
However, my application uses a timer to periodically sense data and storing
it. This means that there is always a timer running. Does the MCU still goes
to any of the low power modes when there is no task in the queue except the
timer is running.

2. What is the energy requirement of the radio in the Low Power Listening
mode on a cc2420 radio? I read this while David Moss was implementing the
LPL scheme:
http://mail.millennium.berkeley.edu/pipermail/tinyos-help/2006-September/019
365.html . Is it 5.09mAh/day for a 2 sec receive check or lesser?

3. Does the radio draw less current when it wakes up and checks for the
channel being modulated in the LPL state. I guess it should be less than 8
mA which it consumes in the actual Rx mode.

Regards
