Maybe motelist works differently on different platforms. The standard motelist from T2 on Mac OS X has no problems finding the MIB520 boards.
The motelist version for windows seems to look into the registry. The motelist version for linux seems to be able to use different methods for finding motes, e.g., looking into specific files in /proc or /sys. The motelist version for Mac OS X seems to simply parse device file names for device files indicating that they might be USB devices supporting serial communication (motelist also does not give the device type on Mac OS X).
