Yes, I'm sure. I connect an external pin of the pot to the Iris VCC,
another external pin to the GND and the central pin to the ADC1 channel.

I also use channel 1, but the result is the same.

Yes. My break-out board connect only VCC, ADC Channel 1 and Ground.
