And to follow up Michael's comment, some of my students do not know the difference between "amount" and "number." (BTW, I use those quotes intentionally to draw attention! ;-> )

Other pet peeve: students who forget to engage their brain when writing and use "subjects" when they really mean "participants." Aaargh!
