Frank Ayd, 87, Who Advanced Thorazine Use, Is Dead

By DOUGLAS MARTIN
(New York Times, March 28/08)

Apropos our discussion of anti-depressants, the article notes that Ayd
predicted in 2005 that "many better drugs would be developed, but said
the challenge was for doctors to learn to use them properly".

"Otherwise, it would be like giving a driver´s license to someone who
can´t drive," he said.

(I seem to recall that Thorazine (chlorpromazine) was first synthesized
as a rocket fuel. But to my surprise I can't verify this on-line, nor for
any other anti-psychotic. Has anyone else heard this and have a source?)
