RE: Short Term Memory.  I still use phone numbers and zip codes as 
examples of how psychological principles are used in "real life" (emails 
and passwords may work well now, since most require 8 characters or 
less).  Also, social security numbers are a good example of chunking.  
Another great demo for chunking is "IBM STD FBI USA IRS FDA".  Of course 
you don't chunk them when read, but show students after the fact how 
chunking improves memory.
