status of metric measurement

Its being awhile since I browsed through the experimental literature
(too busy divergently thinking and DJ ing),but is it now recommended
that all experimental design configurations utilize the metric system?
And how do this present a problem for American scholars submitting
papers to European editors and reviewers and vice versa?
I would imagine if there is a disparity between the metric and the
English system,something may run amok (like that thang that was sent to
the
planet Mars)
