btw another great read is Jonathan Weiner's 'The Beak of the Finch' which
documents Peter & Rosemary's finch research on Daphne Major - in the Galapagos
islands of Darwin fame. Every finch was individually followed, including size,
shape, who mated with who, how many eggs were hatched, etc. Numerous changes in
the finches have been tracked over the decades, especially in response to rain
fall changes which affected plant life and their seeds. But even here, the
changes were not moving in any one direction (as one of the myths says) but
often oscillated back and forth. I read the book at the beach a while back, so
I can't recall all the details, but a good part of the book was devoted to the
issue of the splitting of descendants into different species, i.e. what causes
some descendants to lose ability to breed with other descendants (I believe
mating BEHAVIOR was part of the equation). Great read.

Hi

There are innumerable sites documenting the many misinterpretations of
Evolution and Darwinian theory. See myth #6 at

http://www.toptenmyths.com/index.html

I would offer some other observations about what such nonsense indicates about
American politics, except that some members of our minority Conservative
government believe that humans and dinosaurs once existed together and the
politician in charge of science for the country is a chiropractor! So
something about glass houses inhibits USA-specific comments.

Take care
Jim

Christine O'Donnell, the Tea party republican senatorial candidate for Delaware,
has questioned human evolutionary theory. "if we are descended from monkeys, why
ain't monkeys still evolving?",she asked.
Maybe our Darwin wannabees on Tips can provide an answer.
