By the way, I wasn't trying to re-start the conversation by sending this article. I expected, based on my experience with previous work by Horgan, that this article was not going to be a well-reasoned one. When I finally read it, I discovered that my expectation was on-the-mark. I, too, have read a fair amount of the research on antidepressants (beginning in the early 1990s after some of the work on active placebos had been done) and realize that the implications of the research findings are unclear. I've found this thread to be quite interesting, especially Mike Williams' criticisms of the experimental research. But my understanding of the literature leads me to agree with the points made by Scott and Jim (although I could not have expressed them as well as they did).
