You would be forgiven for thinking that the subject line is some sort of 
political "spin" on my part. In fact, it is the headline in the Austin 
Chronicle for the article linked here:

Here's a verbatim snippet from the Texas Republican Platform for 2012: "We 
oppose the teaching of Higher Order Thinking Skills..., critical thinking 
skills and similar programs... [which] have the purpose of challenging the 
student’s fixed beliefs and undermining parental authority."

So, we should only teach students what they already believe? What's the point 
of that? :-)
