I agree that letter-writing is part of my job, and that's why I get the Big
Bucks.  (Which is laughable, since, as an adjunct, my pay is a *fraction* -
and a pretty small fraction at that - of what full-timers make.  I teach at
two different colleges, but many of you may not know that "full-time
adjuncts" make between $2200 and $2500 per course.  You can do the math and
figure out my average yearly pay.)

But since teaching is a labor of love, I'm willing to help my students
continue their academic careers.  If an honest, carefully written letter
can accomplish that, then I'm happy to be a part of their progress.  The
only "pay" I request is that they let me know when/if they get into the
program they've chosen, and an occasional update.
