Of course you should buy one. You DO NOT know what you are missing till you have Tivo for a few months! Try it for 3 or 4 months. Unplug it and see if you can go for a day or two. You will not be able to. I had a HD die in a unit that was just over a year old. My wife was so mad that she didn't have the Tivo and she was the one that didn't want me to get it. Now she can't live without it.
