I wonder why no one has done this (or maybe they have).
I think the issue is no one wants to trust someone elses list...
But anyhow, here's my idea...
sharing blacklists... I mean, there are tons of lists out there,
and no one puts them together.
I am the original author of the SANS intrusions database,
before I came along, no one bothered to collect the data
and produce a list. it was long, boring, menial, painstaking work.
there's another list that is somewhat useful:
http://www.ssmedia.com/Utilities/hosts/
but it needs to be changed to be useful as an anti-spam list.
why not a "global" list (where users can contribute) spamming domains
(pure domains preferred over those with userids).
Yes, what is my spam may not be your spam, but I think we can all
agree there is a majority of entries that everyone would say is spam.
of course moderated (yes, we'd all love to block yahoo, msn, aol, hotmail)
though I think the blacklist is the wrong place for this
the ISPs mailer reject list is really where it belongs. but since there's no
mail list for that, I post here :)
of course, the first person to post a really good anti-spam filter list
will probably get dos attacked...
am I completely off base here, is there something like this ? (I've checked
what I can)
of course, it'd have to be for free (donations welcome natch... :)
anyone who wants to email me their blacklist/spam filter, I'd be more
than grateful...
Dan.
