A friend of mine wants to set up a new server with TMDA, virtual users, and webmail. However, it is truly mind-numbing just how many packages there are out there to choose from. I love to program, but I have to admit that I don't know the best way to go. I'm going to babble out a bunch of questions that are all at the top of my head. Perhaps some of you can suggest packages that work well together.
[1] I've used qmail for a long time and I really like it, but most webmail programs seem to prefer IMAP over POP3 and for the life of me I can't find anything about making qmail do IMAP. Does anyone out there know if it will? If so, how? [2] If qmail isn't the way to go, what would you recommend? What's a good mail program that works well with TMDA, IMAP, and virtual users? [3] For people running webmail currently: Is IMAP really required? Some of these packages say they can speak POP3 also, but how do they handle mail folders and stuff? Do they or can you just access a single incoming folder if you use POP3 format? [4] My friend is looking at Horde/IMP for the webmail program. I've never used it. Has anyone out there? What did you think of it? Is something out there better? Easier to tweak? Thanks in advance to all who give me any advice. I really am clueless here.
